Dorie Clark is an adjunct professor at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and a professional speaker. Her previous books include Reinventing You and Stand Out, which was named the #1 Leadership Book of 2015 by Inc. magazine, one of the Top 10 Business Books of the Year by Forbes, and was a Washington Post bestseller. The New York Times has described her as an “expert at self-reinvention and helping others make changes in their lives.”

A former presidential campaign spokeswoman, she is a frequent contributor to the Harvard Business Review, and is a consultant and speaker for clients such as Google, Yale University, and the World Bank. She is also a producer of a multiple Grammy-winning jazz album.

The Host's Perspective:

This is the third book in a trilogy.

The first book is Reinventing You: Define Your Brand, Imagine Your Future. That book shares best practices in personal branding and professional reinvention, and walks you through how to make big changes, and position yourself for the career you want. The book is essentially a roadmap to help professionals make the transitions they seek.

The second in the trilogy is Stand Out: How to Find Your Breakthrough Idea and Build a Following Around It. So, after you’ve made that career transition, it shows you how to work your way to the top and ensure that others recognize your expertise.

And that's where Entrepreneurial You comes in. It addresses the most important question of all:  how can you create a long-term, sustainable business that rewards you emotionally, intellectually, and financially.

The problem addressed by the book is that becoming a recognized expert doesn’t always lead to money. The elephant in the room of modern entrepreneurship is that even people who seem to be at the top of their game aren't always monetizing successfully. Learning to make money from your expertise is a different skill set from what's needed to become excellent at your work or well-known in your field.

Sharing your best ideas with the world is a powerful way to help others and give meaning to what you do. But we've entered an era in which influence and revenue have become decoupled. Because anyone can block or podcast or self-publish, content has often devolved into a commodity. In order to make your efforts sustainable, you have to think creatively and consciously about how to monetize your ideas. This book is a road map for how to do just that.
